Job Description

The Senior Network Security Technician will be required to perform and/or have responsibility for duties including, but not limited to:

  • Directly contribute to the design, build, deployment and transition of cyber security solutions aligned with recognized best practice, Defence security policies, principles and frameworks.

  • Work with internal and external technical teams to ensure integration and operation of cyber security tools with all ICT services in the ICT stack.

  • Conduct set-to-work activities and support remediation of cyber toolsets on Minerva systems.

  • Author, review, maintain and contribute to Solution Designs, Standard Operating Procedures, As-Built-As-Configured and other required documentation artefacts.

  • Can autonomously perform highly complex work with internal and external stakeholders, can communicate complex technical issues effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, able to assess and provide risk mitigations to complex problems and the implications of new technologies.

Required skills and experience

  • Experience working in Defence as a Senior Network Security Technician

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in applying cyber-security controlsand practices aligned to zero-trust architecture principles.

  • Strong knowledge and experience deploying and integrating Fortinet products including FortiManager, FortiGate, FortiNAC, FortiAnalyzer.

  • Strong knowledge and experience deploying and integrating Ansible automation for Fortinet products.

  • Strong knowledge and experience deploying and integrating FortiSandbox and multi-factor authentication products including FortiAuthenticator.

  • Strong knowledge of Nutanix, VMWare and Elastic.

  • Ability to work independently and part of a team, lead integrated technical teams, good communication, organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Knowledge and experience of the Defence ICT systems.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell.

  • Experience with Australian Defence Force deployed environments/platforms and the unique networking, support and security constraints.

  • Knowledge of the following frameworks and standards:

  • Australian Information Security Manual (ISM)

  • Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF)

  • Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)

  • US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
